THE COURTYARD AT WINTHROP UNIVERSITY Rock Hill, South Carolina 2003 Award of Excellence – Associated Builders & Contractors
Size & Type of Project – Developer Led Design/Build Leaseback This new dormitory proceeded under a developer led design/build leaseback method of project delivery. New construction consists of a three to four story wood framed structure of approximately 115,000 gross framed SF. The building configuration is rectangular with an expansive courtyard. There are 157 units of which 140 are for student housing containing 406 beds. The remaining units are utilized for common area, cafeteria and administrative purposes. A typical dormitory unit houses three to four students. The clock tower features conference rooms and seminar spaces. Design work began in October 2001 and construction was completed on time in early spring 2003 at a cost of $11.3 Million. This project earned the 2003 Award of Excellence from the Associated Builders & Contractors. MCE Scope of Work Meyer Consulting Engineers functioned as the Structural Engineer of Record. Our services encompassed the schematic, design development, construction document and construction administration phases of the work. In the latter, we reviewed structural submittals for basic conformance to design intent and conducted regular site visits to observe the progress of the work. Key personnel included Lawrence S.
