WESTAT III OFFICE BUILDING & PARKING GARAGE Rockville, Maryland
Size & Type of Project - Fast Track as well as Mixed Use This was a fast-track, complex project consisting of a new four level office building, penthouse and garage. All levels of the office building are structured decks, as the first floor of the office building is above a parking garage. The approximate gross framed area of the office building is 110,964 gross framed square feet. The second project element is a four level parking garage beneath the new office building. Of the four levels, three are structured and one is on grade. The office building lobby is also included in this space. The approximate gross framed area is 108,000 square feet. The third project element is a three level vertical expansion above the existing parking deck. All of the three new levels are structured decks. The approximate gross framed area is 40,500 square feet. Westat III is located between two existing buildings and the parking garage will be custom designed. The garage will be linked into another existing garage. The new garage houses approximately 650 vehicles. Scope of Services Meyer Consulting Engineers was retained in July 1999 to provide parking consultation and full service structural engineering services. Our services were later expanded to include full-service construction phase quality control and inspection services, in accordance with the City of Rockville's Complex Structures Inspection Program. This was a very complex project as it was sited between two existing buildings. The garage was designed to link into an existing garage that we had designed approximately five years previous. Construction was completed on-time in February 2002 at a cost of $18.5 Million. |
