The YSU Veterans Resource Center is a new 6,000 SF resource building located on the campus of Youngstown State University. The center houses offices for the Veterans Administration, conference rooms, dedicated computer rooms for veterans, and a variety of counseling resources. Veterans can apply for admission to the university as well as obtain assistance obtaining GI bill benefits.
The two story building is constructed on a sloped site, resulting in a portion of the lower story being below grade. It is constructed of typical spread foundations with steel columns and masonry bearing walls supporting a hollow core precast plank deck.
MCE Scope of Services
Meyer Consulting Engineers Corporation provided structural design for the building’s precast hollow core elevated decks. Groundbreaking was on September 5, 2013 with building completion in June 2014. Key MCE personnel included Lawrence S. Nagielski, P.E. (Principal Project Structural Engineer), Sanjoy Bose P.E. (Senior Project Structural Engineer) and Terrance Cox (Project Structural Engineer). The construction cost was $1.5 Million raised by private donations. This was the first design/build project constructed on campus.
