This new 300,000 gross square foot facility includes data and warehouse space including surface parking for 200 vehicles. It replaces the existing National Computer Center located at the Social Security Administration’s Headquarters Campus in Woodlawn, Maryland. The computer operations in the new building will ensure prompt and accurate payment of social security benefits to Americans and have a staff of 200.
Seeking LEED Gold certification, construction will feature sustainable materials and technologies including energy efficient heating and cooling systems as well as renewable energy sources. The building is steel framed.
MCE Scope of Services
Meyer Consulting Engineers was retained to provide complete construction materials testing, inspection and associated quality control services in the construction phase. These services include testing and inspection of soils, foundations, cast-in-place concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, and pavements. Construction proceeded under a design/build, fast-track method of project delivery. Groundbreaking was in April 2012 with expected completion late in 2014 at a cost of $191.5 Million.
