Size & Type of Project – $45 Million Environmental Laboratory & Classrooms
This commission consists of a 72,000 SF steel framed addition to the Mathias Laboratory plus renovation 22,000 SF of existing area. The addition will be two stories above grade and one level partially below grade. The project eliminates unsuitable trailers and provides state of the art laboratory, office and classroom spaces. Included are various site improvements such as creation of a sustainably designed wet meadow and a geothermal well field. Construction is seeking LEED Gold certification.
The Mathias Laboratory supports in excess of 180 researchers, technicians and students investigation global climate change, the effect of nutrients and chemicals on the environment, fisheries, biological threats and wetlands/woodlands protection.
MCE Scope of Services
Meyer Consulting Engineers Corporation was retained to provide materials testing and inspection services throughout the construction phase. This work included inspection and testing of foundations and soils, cast-in-place concrete, structural steel, welding and pavements. Off-site laboratory testing was performed in our certified facility. Construction began in August 2011 and completion is expected in June 2014.
