This project consists of the design of a completely new $31 Million high school on a new campus. The existing high school in Wheaton, Maryland transferred to this new facility. The new school consists of approximately 192,000 gross framed square feet for 1,300 students. Featured components are state-of-the-art classrooms, a Chapel that seats approximately 125 people and that has a unique diamond shaped design with doorways leading into a landscaped courtyard, cafeteria and dining hall set up in a contemporary food court configuration, an athletic complex with over 30 acres of field’s for Good Counsel’s nationally recognized sports program and an auditorium/performing arts center designed to seat 600 people.
MCE Scope of Services
Meyer Consulting Engineers Corporation was the Structural Engineer of Record. Design work began in 2002 with several “holds” between phases due to funding and site issues. Bidding documents were issued in March 2005. Construction began in spring 2005. Structural construction was topped out in October 2005 and the school was occupied on time for the January 2007 semester.
