BLUE SHIELD OFFICE BUILDING Thea Drive Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
Size & Type of Project The Blue Shield Office Building is a new three story structure consisting of approximately 231,000 gross framed square feet. Design began in November 1996 and construction was completed in December 1998 at a cost of $28 Million. The building is located atop a small mountain, affording the occupants stunning panoramic views. The primary structural framing system consisted of precast concrete columns supporting precast beams and plank. Some portions of the building were supported or suspended from above, rather than from beneath. The project proceeded as a developer led design/build commission with the developer also functioning as the architect, general contractor, and precaster.
