Type of Project – Emergency Restoration/Repairs
The current multi-story sanctuary was constructed of modernistic concrete and steel framing in 1971. Meyer Consulting Engineers Corporation was retained on an emergency basis in January 2002 when parishioners noticed abnormal movement of the steeple.

MCE Scope of Services Meyer Consulting Engineers functioned as the Structural Engineer of Record for the investigation and repair work. Upon being contacted by the Church, MCE engineers were sent to the site to examine steeple-framing elements. It quickly became apparent that all eight bolts holding the steeple to the main church superstructure were defective. Connection failure was imminent, which would have led to the steeple falling three stories to the street below.

At the church’s direction, MCE engineers quickly developed a repair plan, assisted in retaining the contractor, and expedited County approval of the repair process.
